The concept came after one of the owners started the search for her wedding dress. “I realized that there wasn’t a place to go to get my dream dress at an affordable price every day“. So the idea was born for a place to get wedding dresses every day at up to 75% off retail. Anita is currently planning her wedding for 2010 and understands what each customer is currently going through, while Mena relates with the mothers. “We have great passion for every customer we help, to save money and find their dream dress making this one small step in the process enjoyable and affordable!“ Mena Owner of Viva Amore
The women of Viva Amore feel this charity close to their heart because their son/brother is a Marine and was deployed for a while and is currently a local firefighter. They wanted to do something to support military wives and their husbands for sacrificing their lives for our benefit.

“My mother and I recently opened an eco-friendly bridal and special-occasion boutique [in Watertown, Mass]. My mother had been in the travel industry; I, as a pharmaceutical rep at the ripe age of 26, was already burned out and did not feel right promoting pharmaceutical products any longer. We opened Viva Amore on July 7, 2009. Our motto is to ’shop green while saving green.’ It has been received extremely well thus far.” – Mena and Anita, owners, Viva Amore

DRESS FOR SUCCESS: Anita Dunn belongs to an organic food co-op. She’s known in her Woburn neighborhood for putting out multiple recycling bins each week. So it’s only natural that the boutique she opened earlier this month with her mother, Mena Tuccinardi of Watertown, reflects her environmentally friendly philosophy.
Dunn calls Viva Amore an “eco-chic” bridal and special occasion boutique specializing in new, vintage, and once-worn gowns made from organic and sustainable materials. High-end designer dresses are manufactured according to free trade principles.
Inside its walls, Viva Amore uses repurposed display cases and shelving, energy-efficient light bulbs, 100 percent recycled bags and boxes, no-VOC (volatile organic compounds) paint, and eco-friendly cleaning supplies.
The store also partners with local businesses to offer complementary eco-friendly services. Its florists specialize in locally grown and organic flowers. Invitations can be delivered online or printed on recycled materials. Cakes are made from all-natural and organic ingredients.
Viva Amore is a member of Cambridge Local First and Bicycle Benefits, extending a 5 percent wedding gown discount and 10 percent storewide discount to anyone who bikes to the shop. Gently used gowns are accepted for consignment resale or charity donation.
“We try to give back,” Dunn said. “That’s what being eco-friendly is all about.”
The public is invited to a grand opening celebration on Saturday, July 25, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Viva Amore, 818 Mt. Auburn St. in Watertown. For more information, go to vivaamoreboutique.com.
